A Second Tarot Life

We all evolve. It’s healthy.

There comes a time when we must shed our old skin and allow what lies beneath to come through.

But change is never easy. Letting go of what is familiar can be challenging.

My work has been evolving over the past few years. I’ve shed aspects of it that no longer fit and things I’m no longer aligned with, to make space for what wants to emerge. And at times, that has been testing. While I knew it was the right thing to do, I still clung to parts of my practice I had clearly outgrown, but wasn’t yet ready to leave behind.

I entered the tarot world as a reader, but over time I began to question the benefit of reading for others. I started to wonder whether helping people learn to read for themselves might be a more useful practice.

Reading tarot, to me, is a dance between the cards and the viewer—much like the relationship between a piece of art and someone standing in a gallery. I can describe what I see in the images, but I can’t ultimately say what they will mean for you.

These days, I no longer work with fixed meanings or occult references. I began my transition from the Rider Waite Smith system to the Tarot de Marseille some years ago. My aim now (if you want to slot me into a role) is to teach techniques for reading these cards, to build confidence in my students, and to help them find their own tarot voice.

This shift in practice has led to a full rebrand across my website and social media. I no longer offer readings, but instead share free guidance for working with this antique deck, alongside workshops which will become available for purchase. I’ve changed, so my work has too.

At the centre of my practice is Le Jeu, a magazine focused on the Tarot de Marseille—working to clear up confusion around the deck and help people see its imagery more clearly. For the price of a fancy hot chocolate, its 27-ish pages can be downloaded, keeping costs low for both you and me.

I recently saw an exhibition called A Second Life (which I write about in relation to tarot in issue 3). It resonated with me. As I move forward, I begin a new chapter: a second tarot life, if you will.
