The Things I Never Said is the first in an ongoing series of handmade artist’s zines by Steven Bright.

Created entirely by hand in the artist’s home studio, each copy contains a deeply personal collection of drawings, handwritten memories, poetry and fragments of thought exploring love, longing, missed opportunities, memory, intimacy and the quiet struggles that shape us. Rather than telling a single story, the pages offer glimpses into a private emotional landscape—sometimes tender, sometimes uncomfortable, always honest.

Throughout the zine are expressive India ink and dip pen drawings, alongside hand-painted statements, typed passages created on an antique typewriter, and handwritten entries made with a fountain pen. Every page retains the marks and imperfections of its making, celebrating process over perfection.

This is not intended as a light read, but as a small, intimate work of art.

In deliberate contrast to AI-generated imagery and polished, mass-produced publications, The Things I Never Said embraces the beauty of the handmade. Every copy is home printed, machine-stitched and assembled by the artist, making each zine a physical extension of the original artwork rather than simply a publication.

Much of the imagery explores the male figure. While the drawings include nudity, they are artistic rather than explicit (no genitalia is depicted). The zine also contains occasional strong language.
